2018 Northwest Neighborhood Clean Up and Alley Clean Up

The Neighborhood Clean Up was on Saturday, May 19th at EvCC and we filled the bins. Thank you to our volunteers, Molly Beeman and her crew from EvCC, 3R Technology for the electronics recycling, Rubatino, and project lead, Shelley Sutton.

The NWN Alley Clean Up was also held on Saturday, May 19th from 10-12pm. We partnered with Take Back Our Neighborhood – Everett to clean up alleys starting with Broadway and worked west. We had about 15 dedicated volunteers and made a dent in the cigarette butts! Tim and Jackie Knopf even made it onto KCPQ13 News!

Our guest was the Port’s Chief Finance Officer John Carter. Around 33 people came with their questions about the many projects happening on the waterfront. John provided a little history, a good description of what the port does, and where they’re going in their 100th year.

April Meeting Summary

Thank you to our guests, Barbara George from the Everett Museum of History, and Timothy Knopf from Northwest Neighborhood’s Steering Committee who provided a bit of history of our association. Due to popular demand, as Tim continues his research, we’ll try to plug in “Tim’s Time” for future 15 minute installments of Northwest history. We had about 43 members in attendance. Minutes to come later.

We also elected officers – Kari Quaas, Chair; Kristina Perry, Secretary; Russ Kasselman, Treasurer; GeorgaDee MacLeod and Stephanie Prothero, Council of Neighborhood Reps, and John Sweeney as Alternate.

Easter Egg Hunt A Fun Time For All Ages

The weather played along and at least 200 children came out with their parents for the annual Easter Egg Hunt. Darling bunnies, including a large one, and lots of cute kids had a great time collecting eggs and prizes.

Thanks go to Shelley Sutton, Holly James, Vicky Marler and her Girl Scout Troop, for all of the efforts to make it happen. Also, thanks to the City of Everett Matching Grant Fund for helping us support this annual event. And, thanks to our neighbors who donate to the association. All of everyone’s time, talent and treasure make this possible!

March Meeting Summary and Minutes

  • Bob Hillman and Geoff Larsen from Everett Parks gave us an update on the playground at Legion Park and the shrubs at Grand Avenue Park, respectively.
  • Cate Harrington from Take Back Our Neighborhood – Everett, North shared her passion for the Facebook group she founded, and their successes and challenges. We are welcome to join in any of their events. We may have them help us coordinate an alley cleanup tied to our May 19th Neighborhood Cleanup at EvCC.
  • Thanks to all who brought non-perishable food for the EvCC Food Pantry.

February Meeting Summary and Discussion

We had a super meeting on February 15th with about 40 in attendance. Our special guests were Cathy Reines and Joshua Scott from Koz Development, and Tyler Rourke from Everett Non-Motorized Transportation Association / Everett Bike Walk.  We discussed the potential student housing building near Everett Community College, and options for biking and walking more than driving. Also, Pat Sisneros from Everett Community College was there to answer questions from the college’s perspective. 

Thanks to our new Everett City Council Liaison Judy Tuohy for joining us!

Thanks to Officer Roberto and Sergeant Braley for representing Everett Police.
