NW Neighborhood Annual Events

Dear NW Neighbors, your annual donations help us host neighborhood events for all to enjoy:

Jeff, Joni, Kari, and Tim – March 2022 – with the new park sign

Easter Egg Hunt – The Northwest Neighborhood hosts an annual Easter Egg Hunt for families in the neighborhood. The event takes place on the Saturday preceding Easter and includes an egg hunt. Over 200 children and their parents participate each year. Such fun!

Drew Nielsen Park Activities – The Northwest Neighborhood hosts one or two clean-up opportunities each year at Drew Nielsen Park, 1230 Colby, in the spring and/or fall. We clean up, prune, and plant. In spring 2022, we installed new signs at the park to help tell visitors who Drew Nielsen is.

Native Plant Display Garden – Over 2022 and 2023, we installed our native planting strips along the Hoyt and 13th street sides of Drew Nielsen Park. We look forward to watching the little trees grow! Our next step in the spring of 2025 will be to install an educational sign about the plants and trees and describe why this natural area is so important to our pollinators and local birds!

Neighborhood Clean-up – The Northwest Neighborhood has hosted a clean-up opportunity in the past. This is an opportunity for residents to get garbage and junk out of your yards so that the neighborhood can maintain its attractive qualities. Now we defer to the city staff to host an all-city wide event to collect recyclables, yard waste, trash, etc. 2025 date TBD

National Night Out – National Night Out is a major event in our nation. The event provides a great opportunity to get to know your neighbors, the police, firemen, and other city representatives that come to visit our event. Please let the City of Everett know if you have an event planned.

Mother of All Garage Sales (M.O.A.G.S.) – If there’s one thing we know how to do in Everett it is how to have terrific garage sales! Not only is this a chance for garage sale participants to sell their excess wares, but it is also typically a fundraiser for the neighborhood. It’s held annually on the first Saturday in August. More MOAGs Info. See you on August 2, 2025!

Whittier Bike to School Day – We partner with the Whittier PTA to host an annual Bike to School Day. On the third Friday in May, we gather at Drew Nielsen Park at 7:30 a.m. to do crafts, grab snacks, quick bike tune-ups, and coffee and donuts. The Everett Police escorts the riders down Hoyt from 13th to 10th, and down 10th from Hoyt to Oakes. 2025 TBD. – Photos from the 2019 event

Halloween Decorating Contest – Our secret judges get out and judge local homes on the following categories: Best Daytime, Best Nighttime and Best Overall. They also generally include a few honorable mentions. The award signs are presented the weekend before Halloween.

Holiday Decorating Contest – Categories include Best Daytime, Best Nighttime, Best Overall, and Special Category/Theme. The award signs are presented the weekend before Christmas and stay up through New Year’s.

Drew Neilsen Park Holiday Lights Decorating – In years past neighbors have decorated the gazebo with lights and holiday decorations. Looking for volunteers for Winter 2025!
