2026 Summer Treasurer’s Report

Hello and greetings from Northwest Everett Neighborhood Association’s treasurer, Kari Quaas. For those that don’t know me, I was chair of the neighborhood association from 2017 to 2022, and then “retired” to the role of treasurer when Russ Kasselman, our previous treasurer moved out of Everett.

Treasurer Role and Responsibilities

Mainly my role involves maintaining our bank account and PayPal account to ensure that our bills are paid and process revenue from the Mother of All Garage Sales. Our typical expenses include the following:

  • Everett Downtown Storage – monthly rental of $158
  • Constant Contact – twice a year payments of $345
  • Food and beverage reimbursements for our various meetings and events
  • Portapotties at the garage sale – typically $1,400
  • Printing – signs, maps, etc. – $1,000
  • Easter Egg Candy – $400

An atypical expense this year was the two new neighborhood entrance signs which were purchased with a grant from the City of Everett in the amount of $5,262.50 plus $2815.15 of neighborhood funds. We will try to get them installed this fall with the assistance of Public Works. Stay tuned.

Our organization began on August 16, 1990 and I file our Annual Report to retain our nonprofit status with the State of Washington Secretary of State office by the end of August. This costs us $20 a year.

Mother of All Garage Sales income

I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our neighbors, MOAGS participants, and our sponsors for helping us raise over $7,000 this year for the fundraiser. This allowed us to cover our expenses and have some funds left over for the typical expenses and any future expenses for the entrance signs.

This year’s sponsors were Wheel & House, Bodega on Broadway and Delta Neighborhood Association. Please support them as they supported us!

If you want to sponsor the garage sale in 2027, please get in touch. Our deadline is June 15 to have print ready items by the Fourth of July.

Dues and Donations

We on the Steering Committee very much appreciate your dues and donations to the neighborhood association. If you ever want a letter confirming your donation for your records, please email the neighborhood and include “Donation letter” in the subject line.

Our recommended yearly amount is $52, or $1 per week. This simple contribution really helps us be nimble with our events and other projects we support like our Native Plant Garden at Drew Nielsen Park.

Currently, between our bank and PayPal we have $6,422.82 in the neighborhood accounts plus $62 in accounts receivables.

With gratitude and in stewardship,

Kari Quaas, Treasurer (and Boomer the cat)

Northwest Neighborhood Committee Elections

We had a great turnout at last month’s neighborhood meeting. It was election time and a number of our neighbors stepped up and accepted officer positions on our Steering Committee:

Chair: Kari Quaas

Treasurer: Russ Kasselman

Secretary: Kristina Perry

Council of Neighborhood Reps: GeorgaDee MacLeod, Stephanie Prothero

Other members of the Steering Committee are Shelley Weyer, Holly Gibson, Jackie Knopf, Tim Knopf, JT Dray, MaryVee Westlund, and Joni Smith.

The people on our Steering Committee help to arrange neighborhood meetings, oversee neighborhood events and projects, manage our budget (did you know that we receive mini-grants from the City each year?), and liaison with Everett’s Office of Neighborhoods. Anybody who lives in the neighborhood is welcome to attend our Steering Committee meetings — dates and locations are announced at the monthly Northwest Neighborhood Meeting & Social Hour.

By the way, if you’d like to jump right in just like Kari, the Vice Chair position is still open.
