Shoreline Access
Description:
How much of our waterfront is really accessible to the public? Lot’s of people don’t think enough is being done to
ensure that we have access. Could you walk along our entire waterfront from North of the Kimberly Clark plant all the way around to the other side of the peninsula? Why can’t we? What is the future of Everett’s waterfront?

There is access of sorts (according to the Port)… walk along West Marine View Drive on sidewalk (with tons of curb and driveway cut outs for businesses…dangerous) up the viaduct to Legion Park on north side of Marine View Drive. Very difficult access from Northwest neighborhood because of no marked Ped crossing and taking it on your own across 5 lanes of busy traffic with limited visability because of the hill/viaduct. Very dangerous for both bikes and pedestrians. There is such a mishmash of bits and pieces of paved walkways. AND literally none out at the water’s edge except for at Marina Village and short strip near Jeld-wynn and the mudflats. that walk is dangerous because it is so close to Marine View Drive and flying debris from under big truck wheels not to mention the exhaust. To enter the waterfront from Northwest neighborhood you have to do it through the Bayside neighborhood at the Kimberly Clark overpass on 24 or is it 25th? Other than that one has to go to Everett Ave, cross Marine View Drive (traffic light with ped crossing) over to the California Street bridge sidewalk and heading southwest down to the Forgotten Creek pathway beside a barb wire fence out to a tiny patch of beach and small grass area with a picnic table. This is VERY scary for walkers alone. We say always walk down there with at least two adults. so close to train tracks and transients.
